Uncovering Hidden Histories of Frederick County Bus Tour

  • Sunday, February 16 at 10:00 AM

Explore how three historic sites in Frederick County have worked to uncover the hidden stories of their pasts and integrated those stories into their interpretation. Monocacy National Battlefield’s archaeological and archival investigation into Native American sites and L’Hermitage plantation have expanded understanding of the area’s history. At Rose Hill Manor, ongoing research into the enslaved people continues to establish a network of relationships across and beyond the county. And Catoctin Furnace’s archaeological, archival, and DNA research brings visitors face-to-face with the enslaved workers of the iron furnace.

This full-day bus tour will begin with a round-table presentation followed by lunch then exploration of all three sites. The day will conclude with a local wine tasting and conversation before departure.

Accessibility note: While much of this tour will take place indoors, the tour will include brief stops outdoors. Attendees should wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.

This tour is sponsored by Visit Frederick. The tour is $30 and lunch will be provided.
