Rachel Nichols, heritage area assistant in Washington County, came to the staff in 2013 through a grant
agreement with the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Center. While at the CVB,
Rachel specialized in public relations for the organization. She has a strong background in grants
administration owing to her 12 years at the National Endowment for the Arts, which is an asset to
constituents requesting grants from the Heritage Area. Always one to help others put their best foot
forward, Rachel has been communications/PR manager at Whitetail Ski Resort, and was publisher of The
Gazette Real Estate Guide. In addition to her work with HCWHA, Rachel is development coordinator for
The Conococheague Institute, an 18th and 19th century 30-acre farmstead in Mercersburg, PA and
occasionally writes for newspapers and magazines.
