SUMMARY:Revolutionary Maryland: Freedom of the Press Then and Now
DESCRIPTION:The Revolutionary Maryland: Freedom of the Press Then and Now traveling exhibition\, which opened at the Arundel Center on Tuesday\, January 13\, and the Museum of Eastern Shore Culture on Saturday\, January 17\, explores the evolution of one of our most important American freedoms from its earliest incarnation in the Maryland Colony to its role in contemporary society. The multi-panel exhibit highlights archaeological investigations undertaken at the 18th century Jonas and Anne Catherine Green printshop\, the importance of inclusive journalism outlets like Afro Charities\, and the persistence of local new sources like those supported by the Tiny News Collective. Public programming in host communities will include companion exhibits\, lecture panel presentations\, and other opportunities to highlight local stories. \nThe free exhibition will be on display in Frederick Community College’s MOSAIC Center from 8/25 to 9/14 from 9AM -4:30 Monday through Friday.

DESCRIPTION:Park staff and volunteers will present living history and cannon firing demonstrations to commemorate the 164th anniversary of the Battle of South Mountain. Participate in interpretive talks about the significance of the battle and learn about the significant role that artillery played in the attack and defense of the mountain. Cannon firing demonstrations will be presented at 11:00 a.m.\, 1:00 p.m.\, and 3:00 p.m. both days.

SUMMARY:One Vast Hospital - Downtown Frederick Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Explore the incredible Civil War history in Downtown Frederick with expert guides from the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. \nEvery Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday at 12:00 p.m. from April until September\, docents from the National Museum of Civil War Medicine will explain how Frederick became “One Vast Hospital.” Arguably the most trying moment in city’s history came after the Battle of Antietam in the fall of 1862. The town’s population doubled when 8\,000 wounded soldiers were delivered by ambulance to make-shift hospitals throughout Frederick. Walking tours last for an hour to an hour and a half. \nTickets are $15 and include admission to the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in addition to the walking tour. Tickets are free for Museum members\, but you must still reserve your spot. Part of America’s 250th Celebration\, and in commemoration of the 164th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam in Sharpsburg\, Maryland.
